What do I need to do?

The RVSA will affect all trade sectors of the Recreational Vehicle industry in some capacity.  The Australian Government are still working through the finer details of the RVSA implementation with more information becoming available over time.  Having said that, there is still plenty of preparation work which can be done in the meantime to make sure you are RVSA ready!

Towable Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers & Importers

  • Light Trailer Type Approvals

Towable Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers or Importers (supplying more than 4 units per year) will need to apply for Light Trailer Type Approvals. The government is still building the IT system which will be used to process approval applications.  For more information on what is required to be eligible to apply for a Light Trailer Type Approval head to the Applying for Approvals page.

  • Register of Approved Vehicles

Under the RVSA, every Towable Recreational Vehicle upon completion will need to be recorded on the online Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).  Towable Recreational Vehicles (identified by VIN) which do not appear on the RAV will not be able to be registered by State Transport Authorities.

It is strongly advised that every Towable Recreational Vehicle Manufacturer or Importer starts understanding how the RAV requirements will be managed in their businesses NOW.  This is involves trialling, and with this knowledge, you will be able to plan and prepare your internal systems accordingly to ensure you have capacity to enter all towables on the RAV that leave your factories/ premises.

For more information on how to start testing this platform moving forward head to the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) page.

Motorhome/ Campervan Manufacturers & Importers

  • Approvals

Motorhome and Campervan Manufacturers and Importers will need to transition their current IPA approvals (under the MVSA) to RVSA Approvals.  NEVDIS should have already contacted approval holders in relation to the transitional arrangements.

For more information on approvals head to the Applying for Approvals page.

Component Supplier/ Component Manufacturer or Importer

If you manufacture, supply or import a component, accessory or assembly which is governed by a relevant Australian Design Rule (ADR) then (if applicable) under the new act you may wish to obtain a Component Type Approval (CTA) in place of any existing¬†CRN‚Äės or SARN‚Äôs you currently hold.¬† Over time, to obtain an approval (Component Type Approval) your evidence or testing for the relevant component will need come from a federal government¬†approved test facility.
